Chehalis Hegner | Fall 2005

BIOGRAPHY

Fine art photographer/video artist, Chehalis Hegner, received support from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston for her Microcosms project depicting Artemis in a series of haunting photographs that were generated from video tape shot within the museum. The series represents the carved goddess' head in a range of emotional and physical states - however, these 'animated' images are derived from only one stone sculpture.

Ms. Hegner has shown her work in both solo and group exhibitions. Some of the venues include: The Art Institute of New England (Handmade Cinema Show), The Photographic Resource Center in Boston (Celebrating New Technologies show), the Raue Center for the Arts in Crystal Lake, Illinois (Microcosms), Edwards Art Gallery at the Holderness School in Plymouth New Hampshire (Microcosms), Art Institute of Boston, Epi Center in Boston, and the Galletley Gallery (Silence Unfolding series) at the New Hampton School in New Hampton, NH. Ms. Hegner held an Artist in Residence post at Plymouth State University in 2000-2001, and then accepted a position as photography instructor within their art department. She has also taught photographic workshops for the past 3 years at the New Hampton School in NH.

Chehalis Hegner received her MFA in Visual Arts at the Art Institute of Boston in June, 2005. Her mentors include photographer Arno Rafael Minkkinen, George Fifield (Decordova Museum and Sculpture Park and founder of the Boston Cyberarts Festival), Jonathan Singer of Singer Editions, Boston, and photographer Franz C. Nicolay. Hegner received her B.A. at Berklee College of Music and is also a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy at Interlochen, Michigan.

Chehalis is currently represented by Gallery Imperato (Baltimore, MD) and The Carega Gallery (Center Sandwich, NH.) Upcoming exhibitions in 2006 include Alumni Hall Art Center in April, (Haverhill, NH), a solo show at Gallery Imperato in June, and a group show at Carega gallery in September, 2006.

Works in progress include: A new photographic series on The Feminine Masquerade and an experimental video documentary (The Anatomy of a Kiss), examining that celebrated and evocative topic.
