Positively Impact Students Transitional Years
The middle school years are a time of significant transition in students' lives, both in terms of their personal development and maturity and in their emerging interest in becoming more independent and aware of the world around them. Middle school educators must be able to effectively address the myriad academic and developmental needs of this age group.
The Lesley vision of Middle School Education is that adults should be active, positive participants in students' lives, students should be allowed to construct their own knowledge, schools should be involved in community life, and teachers should cooperatively create learning experiences that foster excellence. Good classroom management techniques, interdisciplinary teacher teams, and fair assessment practices are essential to achieving desired performance.
We offer Master's-level programs leading to initial licensure and professional licensure that weave effective middle school practices across a range of subject areas, including English, science, history, humanities, mathematics, math/science, and political science/political philosophy. These programs are enhanced by Collaborative Internship opportunities that give students field-based experience in a variety of local, affiliated schools. We also offer degree programs at the middle school level for reading specialists and teachers of visual art.
