Early Learning is Critical
Research into early childhood education has shown what many PreK-2 teachers already know: the earliest years of learning are among the most critical, and young children have the capacity not only to become prepared for an elementary school environment but also to grasp key curricular concepts. Early childhood education is also essential because the sooner learning differences or disabilities are identified and addressed, the greater the chances of a successful and sustained remediation. Read our Early Childhood Education Mission Statement
Lesley offers a range of early childhood degree programs leading to initial and professional licensure, with the primary goal of providing teachers with a solid understanding of children's development and the ability to translate this knowledge into classroom practice. Enhanced by Collaborative Internship opportunities at a variety of local, affiliated schools, our programs prepare teachers to work in both public and private settings with students with and without disabilities. Respect for the abilities, needs, and developmental levels of society's youngest learners is a hallmark of Lesley's Early Education programs - and of our graduates. Working with a population that is all potential, our teachers set the stage for a lifetime of learning.
Initial licensure programs offer coursework, field experiences, and ongoing portfolio development, all of which build a foundation of curriculum knowledge across disciplines. Programs for professional licensure include advanced levels of curriculum development, policy, behavior, and multiculturalism.
