The Arts are a Bridge Between Expression and Learning
Lesley provides aspiring and current teachers with the broad-based knowledge and skills to lead art classes and integrate a broad range of creative arts activities - such as visual arts, music, dance, and poetry - into the general PreK-12 classroom. The arts provide a bridge to different cultures, a way to express oneself, and a hands-on way of learning more about the world. With studies showing that they have a positive effect on student learning across the curriculum, the arts are fast moving away from the realm of "enrichment" and becoming an integrated part of the academic day.
Lesley offers initial and professional licensure and degree-only programs in school-based arts teaching and leadership, in on-campus and off-campus settings. And because the arts are an effective tool for building literacy and for engaging children who have physical and mental disabilities, Lesley also provides students with the skills to develop curricula that effectively integrate art techniques and experiences, and that use art to reach and teach students with special requirements.
We also offer a degree program - with choice of specialization - for those who want to produce and promote the arts in community settings through local arts groups, and through other arts-related organizations.
