Educational Studies: Individually Designed Specialization

Attain your interdisciplinary educational goals your way.

This program highlights our commitment to scholarship and new knowledge, interdisciplinary study, and the value of relating theory to practice. To start, you’ll develop a study plan that aligns with your professional and personal goals. In Phase I, you’ll take courses in research methods and interdisciplinary study. In Phase II, complete chosen elective courses and write a qualifying paper. Phase III is the writing of the dissertation.

At Lesley, we believe in the power of critical examination.

Here, you’ll learn qualitative and quantitative research methods, and examine the very nature of inquiry. In interdisciplinary seminars, you’ll explore the forces that shape roles of professionals in institutions of social change, and interact with experts in the field. Elective courses from across the university will add further power to your inquiry.

Dr. Susan Patterson
Susan is the director of the PhD in Educational Studies: Individually Designed Specialization. She started her professional career as a middle and high school teacher of history and economics. At Lesley, she has been teaching in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics programs, particularly in the appropriate integration of technology in the classroom.
