Early Childhood Education (PreK–2): Initial Teacher License

Master of Education (M.Ed.), on-campus or teacher residency program

Inspire young children’s curiosity, confidence, and love of learning.

The early years are critical for children’s learning. Foster young students’ social, emotional, intellectual, and moral development, laying the groundwork for future success. Explore how children develop literacy, and how family and community enhance learning. Gain strategies for supporting English language learners and children with special needs. Graduate with the experience needed for a rewarding career in PreK–2 classrooms.

At Lesley, our programs respect the competence and curiosity of young children and their unique individual needs.

Here, in addition to learning how to teach literature, math, science, and social studies, you'll study inclusive education and teaching English language learners. You'll use practical curriculum ideas, explore classroom management styles, and try out new teaching strategies. And you’ll discover what it takes to create a caring classroom community, in theory and in practice.

Student Teaching

Student teaching, a requirement of all initial licensure programs, is an opportunity to apply new skills to an active classroom environment and receive feedback from your supervising teachers and faculty. All placements are in an appropriate Massachusetts school, and are set up through our field placement office.
