Sheltered English Instruction for Licensed Teachers (PreK-12) - 3 credits

Licensed alumni and other educators can take this course to receive an endorsement for Sheltered English Instruction, which is required of all core academic teachers in Massachusetts public schools as of July, 2016. Lesley is a state-approved vendor for the SEI endorsement. Learn more about the requirement.  

Course Description

This course prepares PK-12 teachers with the knowledge and skills to effectively shelter their content instruction in order for English language learners (ELLs) to access curriculum, achieve academic success, and contribute their multilingual and multicultural resources as participants and future leaders in the 21st century global economy. The course covers:

  • The bilingual student's world
  • Second language acquisition process
  • Academic language and literacy development in Sheltered English Instruction (SEI)
  • Bilingual classrooms

To enroll, you must have:

  • Access to ELL students throughout the course
  • An initial or professional educator license in Massachusetts OR
  • An out-of-state teaching license and proof of being in the process of obtaining a Massachusetts license


$1915 ($625 per credit plus $40 registration fee). Submit a check with registration or choose to make a payment by credit card (2.5% fee applies) after the registration form is processed. Register for SP18 EECLD-6117-01.
