Women's Center
New England Women's Centers Conference (NWCC) 2011
About the conference
This fall the Lesley University Women's Center will host a two day conference on November 4th and 5th for sister centers from the New England region. The inaugural conference last year, hosted by Harvard University, was a tremendous success.
NEWCC is an opportunity to share collective knowledge from women's centers and to keep building on the important themes which emerged in discussions last year. This year NEWCC will focus on issues unique to collegiate women's centers such as:
- The Role of a Women's Center Outside the Academic Setting.
- Effective Mentoring Models
- Doing More with Less Funding
- Effective Grant Writing
- Education for Violence Prevention on Campuses
- The Evolving Role of Centers as Gender Inclusive Communities.
- Cross Collaboration within Campus
- Title IX and Sexual Assault
Keynote:
The keynote address will be delivered by three students, chosen from different institutions, who will discuss perspectives on contemporary feminism and leadership on campus.
Screening:
We're delighted to screen an early cut (work in progress) of the documentary Left on Pearl, which chronicles the battle of women's rights activists, in 1970, to occupy a Harvard building and open a women's center. Screening Left on Pearl is a celebration of a victory for women's rights here in our own backyard with a message that rings true for all centers, even forty years later. Left on Pearl was shown to a sold-out crowd at the Brattle Theater in Cambridge.
Left on Pearl will be shown Nov 4th at 7:30pm at University Hall Amphitheater, followed by Q&A.
