The Carroll School - Lesley University Collaborative Internship Program
Moderate Disabilities Prek-8, 5-12
In partnership with Buckingham Browne & Nichols School
The Carroll School, in Lincoln, MA, is a dynamic independent day school for elementary and middle school students diagnosed with language-based learning disabilities in reading and writing. A strong emphasis is placed on training teachers to work with this specific population. The Carroll School is committed to the principles or the Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach for reading remediation, and all teachers are required to have studied OG within their first three years of hire. This ensures that consistency and support are provided curriculum-wide throughout a student's day.
This program partners with Buckingham Browne & Nichols (BB&N), a coeducational day school in Cambridge, MA, whose mission is to foster intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and a deep concern and respect for others. BB&N's educational program provides a rigorous core curriculum, taught in flexible and innovative ways, which is strengthened by its commitment to the arts and athletics.
Established in 2002, the Collaborative Internship Program is a unique opportunity to earn a Master's degree and Initial teaching license in Moderate Disabilities (Prek-8 or 5-12) while spending a full academic year in the classroom. This full-time program operates on a structured sequence of courses held at both the school site and at the Lesley University campus in Cambridge.
