Joan Karp, Senior Research Associate

Joan Karp has worked with PERG since early 2000. Her projects have included innovative science and math professional development programs, after-school university/school partnerships, and an effort to institutionalize a media arts education program in an urban school system. In addition, she has evaluated an NSF/NASA-funded museum exhibit, and has worked with a breast cancer organization to assess the needs of those impacted by the disease and to aid in the redesign of its web site.

In addition to evaluation, Joan brings to her work at PERG a background in program development and administration, racial and cultural awareness issues, and peer-counseling. She has managed two NSF-funded mathematics teacher enhancement and training projects at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, was instrumental in an early school improvement program in the Boston Public Schools, and has worked with a range of school systems and community groups on diversity issues.

In addition to her part-time work at PERG, Joan is also a regional supervisor and international trainer for a grass-roots organization teaching listening skills and peer counseling tools. She holds an undergraduate degree from Brandeis University and a graduate degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
