Center Offerings 2000-2005

  • Early Childhood Institute, formerly the New England Kindergarten Conference. (Save-The-Date: November 1-2, 2005, Sheraton Framingham Hotel)
  • Families First Workshop facilitated by Doug Weinstock of Families First.
  • 9th Annual Reggio Emilia Inspired Institute. (Save-The-Date: April 29-May 1, 2005)
  • Fostering Literacy Development in the Early Years: Cambridge Literacy Connections (2 credits)
  • Language and Literacy Development: Theory and Practice for Home Visitors. Offered with Early Childhood Connections, a Cambridge Community Partnership Project (2 credits)
  • Children with Behavior Problems: Responding to the Challenge (an online course)

Community-Sponsored Events Held at Lesley:

  • Parents Forum Lecture with Steven Pinker, Professor in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT.
  • Domestic Violence Forums: co-sponsored with the Cambridge Child Care Resource and Referral Agency.
  • Career Exploration Day: co-sponsored with Cambridge Child Care Resource Center. Professional opportunities within the field of Early Childhood Education, held in June of 2000.
  • The Leading Edge: A nationally televised video conference sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Held in March 1999.

The Center for Children, Families and Public Policy is grateful for these past and current grants:

  • Massachusetts Child Care Voucher Study (Anonymous Funder)
    in collaboration with the Bessie Tartt Wilson Children's Foundation

    A year-long study of current voucher usage in 30 Boston-area child care centers.
    Field research to begin in July 2004.
  • Advancing the Field: Career Paths Scholars Program
    31 early childhood staff admitted to the University for degree work.
    Duration of the program: 3 years-total tuition scholarships provided.
  • Harold Whitworth Pierce Charitable Trust
  • Spark Initiative (Supporting Partnerships to Assure Ready Kids)
  • Boston-Lesley Collaborative Bilingual Masters Degree Program
  • Mailman Foundation
