Considering Issues of the Aesthetic Experience in Arts Based Technology Applications
Lisa Donovan and Kerrie Bellisario
W202

Academic Technology Fellows Lisa Donovan and Kerrie Bellisario will share research being conducted through an Academic Technology Fellowship which focuses on how the aesthetic experience can translate into creating effective and engaging online technological environments, affecting the quality and ability to learn and experience. Fellows will share their current research and focus on 2 specific areas:

  • Designing the learning environment
  • The potential for using alternate modes of delivery in arts education

Evaluating and Responding to Student Work Via the myLesley Gradebook
Heather McMorrow Gretzinger
L401

The myLesley gradebook feature provides students a place to submit work, receive feedback from faculty and track their grades for every assignment. In this workshop we explore some of the gradebook features that will help faculty to support student progress:

  • View and manage online assignments submissions
  • Manually enter grades for work submitted outside myLesley
  • Perform weighted grade averaging
  • Filter items by category (e.g., display only exams) or by last name
  • Convert individual grades from raw scores to percentages or letter grades and vice versa

Great Teaching in an Electronic Environment: A Beginner's Guide to Online Instruction
Maureen Brown Yoder
L403

How can your best teaching techniques be transformed into an online format? What strategies can be used to promote lively and meaningful discussions? What ways can collaborative work be incorporated into a text based environment? Maureen will lead participants through what experienced online instructors do to inspire their students and facilitate community building. Participants will come away with guidelines and suggestions, and at least five ways to enhance any class with online components.

Maximize Your Time: New Methods for Reusing Course Content in myLesley
Debra Michalides
L401

Course Copy... Archive... Import... Copy & Paste... Export... What is the most efficient way of reusing and moving content in myLesley? This hands-on session will explore the new Copy Course feature; the best tool for migrating old course content into a new course shell. We will also revisit ways of moving smaller amounts of content between courses.

Developing and Implementing Strategies for Communities and Online Courses
Lisa Donovan, Gene Diaz, and Rebecca Petersen
Moderated by Maureen Brown Yoder
W202

In late 2005 Creative Arts in Learning developed a myLesley Community made up of the teaching faculty in the off campus CAGS program. This community is evolving in structure and content as the program itself evolves. In this session we will dialog about the use of myLesley Communities for faculty groups, especially the challenges of developing technical competencies, faculty participation and the University process for developing these Communities.

Finding the Best Alternative Health Information on the Web
Kathy Holmes and April Levy
L403

Join Kathy Holmes and April Levy to explore academically rigorous information about alternative health through the Lesley Library's subscription databases and the free Web. Whether you work in a health related discipline or just want what's best for your own and your family's health, you may seek alternative or holistic health information. You undoubtedly know both sides of the debate - either that alternative health treatments should not be trusted or that they open up new options for health that conventional medicine does not satisfy. As an academic and a responsible health consumer, where can you turn for reliable information? Discuss quality standards and learn how to direct your students to good information on alternative health.

Using myLesley for Faculty and Course Mentoring (canceled)
Mary Hopper
W204

Mary will share the results of her 2004-2005 Center for Academic Technology Faculty Fellowship. She will describe the diverse faculty mentoring models that have evolved across schools and programs at Lesley University, and explain ways that technology in general and myLesley communities in particular can be used to support the mentoring process. She will also provide examples of best practices and suggest possible directions for future exploration. In conclusion, the audience will be invited to discuss and share experiences in designing communities to support their mentoring activities.
