How to Make the Best Use of the Center for Academic Achievement

Look Ahead.

At the start of the semester, note on a calendar when all your major papers, projects, presentations, and exams are due. This will help you spot assignments which you would like to work on at the Center.

Call Early for an Appointment.

Since tutorials are on a by-appointment basis only, please call approximately one week in advance to schedule a time to visit the center, particularly during mid-terms and at the end of the semester.

Have an Idea of What You Can Cover in an Hour.

One very general tip: don't try to cover more than three or four pages of writing in an hour. If you have a long paper, make several appointments, or pinpoint specific parts of the paper on which to focus. Bring your assignments, relevant books, and notes with you.

Keep Your Appointment!

Even if you don't have your paper or project completed, a tutor can give you feedback on your work in progress or you can discuss ideas for your project.

Testing Accommodations.

The Center provides space for those students with documented learning differences who require extended time and/or a distraction-free space for test-taking.

If you wish to request space in the Center, please come to our main office to fill out the necessary forms at least two weeks prior to your scheduled test or exam.
