Learn ways you can make Commencement green. Take the social and environmental graduation pledge, wear a green ribbon on your graduation gown made from recycled materials, and use alternative transportation to the event.
The Graduation Pledge is a voluntary commitment to support and build responsile citizenship for a sustainable order. Students who have taken the pledge have turned down jobs for ethical reasons, promoted recycling at their organizations, removed racist language from training manuals, and worked for gender parity in high school athletics.
"I pledge to explore and take into account the social and environmental consequences of any job I consider and will try to improve social and environmental consciousness of any organizations for which I work.”
Please do not sign the pledge card or wear a green ribbon on graduation day unless you intend to fulfill the commitment.
Wearing a green ribbon will make a public statement of your intent to consider the well-being of the world and its inhabitants both when you consider job possibilities and after you are on the job. Pick up your green ribbon and pledge card at the following locations now through Commencement:
The Graduation Pledge Table will be located adjacent to the line-up area! Look for our table and pick up your green ribbon!
Herff Jones offers Renew, a Green Keeper alternative made from Repreve® yarn. REPREVE is made from recycled materials, including post-consumer plastic bottles (29 post-consumer plastic bottles per gown - collectively saving over 7 million post-consumer plastic water bottles this year). Unifi, who makes Repreve, donates a portion of sales to worthy environmental causes.
