The MFA in Visual Arts program at the Art Institute of Boston provides the ideal solution for artists, teachers, and other professionals in related fields who are seeking advancement in visual arts. Accredited by both NEASC and NASAD, the MFA program allows you, with the guidance of our internationally known faculty and mentors, to design your own studio and academic plan for each semester, building on the tradition of collaboration and innovation that characterizes the art programs at AIB and Lesley University. The MFA program also benefits from the success of Lesley's low-residency model, which meets the diverse needs of adult learners.
Created to emphasize craft and concept driven photography, the MFA in Photography program is built upon photographic history, and the fluid integration of contemporary media with traditional, and alternative, photographic practice. This is predicated upon the philosophy that photography is not a single entity, but is unique among the visual arts in its ability to successfully merge new technologies and cultural influences with artistic production. In this constantly evolving medium, it is artists who are cognitively defining the future of photography. We believe that concentrated studio practice is essential to an individual's level of visual literacy and their capacity to interpret and communicate signs, symbols, and metaphors. We subscribe to the optimistic idea that the future of photography will be built upon its past and that contemporary artists are entering a period where antiquarian is synonymous with innovation.
