The Minor in Design provides students with an opportunity to learn about perceptual, conceptual and technical skills needed in the field of graphic design.
The undergraduate Design minor offers students seeking to expand their creative talents the opportunity to build proficiency in technical design tools, methods and theory. Following completion of three core offerings in the Language of Design, Typography, and the History of Modern Design, this 15-credit minor exposes students to design techniques and theory across multiple media formats.
The elective courses in the Design minor are ideal for students pursuing a major through the Business Management and Communications program, providing opportunities to develop a portfolio suited for careers in product marketing, publishing, and advertising. These course include in-depth study of design for websites, video games, and packaging.
History of Modern Design examines the evolution of form during the
modern period (c.850 to the present). Particular attention is paid to the trends and practices shared among all the design fields —
graphic design, industrial design, and architecture — and
design's impact on the fine arts.
