Providing support, information, and advisement to our students, field training sites, and our faculty.
Many people are involved with the training of Counseling and Psychology students both on and off campus. As a learning team, we work together to provide the best possible experiences for students during their internships. The learning team consists of the graduate student, the site supervisors, Clinical Practice & Supervision instructors, faculty advisors, and the directors of the Field Training Office. Our main responsibilities include providing quality sites, insuring that site supervisors meet licensure and regulatory requirements and that the clinical instructors for the on campus course make the required site visits and monitor student progress. The team is responsible to see that the students’ experiences meet the competencies and standards as articulated by program policies, and the ethical codes of the ACA, ASCA and AMHCA. The Field Training Office monitors the documentation of the practicum and internship experience so that students will have the necessary paperwork when they apply for licensure. Upon graduation, our Licensure Advisor helps students in their application process.
Stay Informed, and Keep On-Track
In mid-semester of each year the Field Training Office hosts an informational meeting for students considering internship. Each student needs the approval of their faculty advisor in order to pursue internship. Major criteria include the completion of 7 required courses as stated in the Learning Goals contract, as well as the approval of the instructor of the Clinical Skills and Counseling Process course. At our informational meeting we review the necessary prerequisites as well as provide the information students need in order to begin their search. Students receive an internship packet with an internship search guide, information on how to use the web-based approved site list, and a copy of the necessary contract to be signed. Field training requirements necessary to meet licensure as either a LMHC, school guidance counselor, or school adjustment counselor are reviewed. Each student will know what they need to complete in terms of overall hours, clinical contact and supervision based on her/his program. These details regarding the requirements of students and their sites are provided at this meeting and at subsequent meetings with the Associate Director, as well as in the Field Training handbook which students, site supervisors and clinical faculty will receive at the start of the internship year.
Field Training Site and Professional Development
The Field Training Office provides oversight and consultation to the sites as well as professional development opportunities to both site supervisors and campus clinical instructors in the interest of providing our students the best possible opportunity to learn how to be counseling professionals.

"I highly recommend Lesley! I was exposed to ideas that I'd never had, in an environment that offered dedicated, knowledgeable teachers and a curriculum that prepared me for independent clinical work. I would recommend Lesley to anyone interested in being challenged."
