The photography foundation year immerses you in the multi-faceted world of photographic creativity and expression—introducing you to critical, conceptual, historical, and technical studies.
The foundation lab and seminar classes, combined with courses in the humanities, art history, and visual arts, help you approach the medium as a well-informed and articulate artist. This year lays the groundwork for your further exploration of the techniques, philosophy, and concerns of commercial/studio, documentary and fine art photography.
Accelerated Foundation Option
Students entering AIB with college credits and/or life experience may apply for the Accelerated Foundation courses offered in the spring semester. Accelerated courses allow students to complete their first-year studio studies in a single semester. Completion of accelerated courses does not guarantee full second-year standing the following semester. Students must present a portfolio for review at the end of the semester and fulfill all degree/diploma credit requirements for graduation.
