Report Suspicious Activities, Crimes and Incidents
As a member of the Lesley community and our extended security team you have a responsibility to report all suspicious activities to Public Safety immediately. All suspicious activities reported will be investigated by Public Safety.
Examples of suspicious activities
- breaking glass or a broken window
- screams or calls for help and/or fire
- cars repeatedly driving around campus
- unknown individuals entering a neighbor's room or office
- unknown individuals loitering or wandering in your dormitory or office building
Crimes and incidents
Likewise, if you have been a witness to, or victim of a wrong doing, it is your responsibility to inform an official member of the Lesley community (i.e. Dean of Students, Director of Residence Life, Public Safety, etc.) immediately. Once notified of a crime, the community member must immediately inform Public Safety. It is Public Safety’s responsibility to investigate the incident, obtain assistance from the appropriate outside agency(s), develop effective countermeasures and keep the Lesley community informed of any potential threats or dangers.
Security Policies
Below are several security related University policies. For more detailed standards, including associated repercussions, please consult the Lesley Student Handbook.
Alcohol
Lesley supports the observance of all Massachusetts state laws and regulations governing the sale, purchase and distribution of alcoholic beverages. The legal drinking age in Massachusetts is 21 and all members of the Lesley community must abide by this law.
Drugs
Lesley does not condone the possession, use or sale of illegal drugs on its campus. Lesley will abide by Federal and State laws governing such activities.
Hazing
Lesley prohibits hazing in any form by any individual or group operating on or in conjunction with this institution.
Identification
Lesley requires students, faculty, and staff to maintain a current identification card. Any lost or stolen ID cards must be reported to Public Safety immediately.
Visitors
Visitors to Lesley are always welcome provided they conduct themselves in an appropriate manner. A Lesley community member who has a visitor is responsible for that individual’s actions. Visitors should never be let into a dormitory building without the consent of the Lesley student being visited. If the student being visited is not presently on campus, the visitor must be turned away. If the visitor refuses to leave, you should immediately call Public Safety for assistance.
Sexual Assault Procedures
It is Lesley’s intent to ensure the rights of all victims of a sexual offense (i.e. rape, assault...) and to encourage the reporting of all such acts to an official of the Lesley community or to a member of the local Police (911). Official members of the Lesley community include, Dean of Students, Director of Residence Life, Faculty, Human Resources, a Lesley counselor, Student Health Services at 617.349.8222 or the Public Safety Department at 617.349.8888.
The Lesley official, with the victim’s consent, will notify local police and the Public Safety Department immediately. This action is important, as the preservation of any physical evidence is crucial. Once notified the local Police will assume control.
Sex Offender Registry
On October 28, 2000 the U.S. Congress
enacted a law (Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act), which requires each
State Sex Offender Registry Program to notify Institutions of Higher
Education when a Registered Sex Offender is employed, performs a trade,
or is a student of that Institution of Higher Education. This
notification can be direct or through the local Police Department. The
law took effect on October 28, 2002.
The
law further states that a list of Registered Offenders who carry a
trade at, is a student of or is employed by the University, may be
disclosed to any Lesley community member requesting such information.

Cambridge/Boston may be viewed by contacting the Mass. Sex Offender Registry Board at 978.740.6400.
