Prepare to Meet the Needs of the Growing Population of Emerging Bilinguals

A recent study by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics found that 10.8 million children between the ages of five and seventeen, 20 percent of the school-age population, speak a language other than English at home. This suggests not only a strong career opportunity for teachers of multicultural classrooms, but also a responsibility for such teachers to enhance the performance of schools that have a great amount of language diversity.

Our programs prepare teachers to better meet the needs of students in grades 1-6 by combining hands-on experience with the most current technologies and proven, research-based strategies to help ELL/ESL students make significant performance gains.

ELL/TESOL Teacher Preparation Programs (Initial Licensure)

• M.Ed. in Elementary Education (1-6) with English as a Second Language (ESL) (PreK-6)
• M.Ed. in Elementary (1-6) with Optional Add-License Preparation for English as a Second Language (Elementary Education Urban Initiative)  

ELL/TESOL Non-Degree Programs for Current Teachers (Initial License Only)

• License Only: English as a Second Language (PreK-6) leading to Initial License in ESL

 ELL/TESOL Teacher Professional Development Programs

• Advanced Professional Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
