The online bachelor's degree program in Psychology provides a rigorous, exciting and complex exploration of the science of behavior and mental processes. The scientific study of psychology covers many topics including individual development, cognition and memory, personality, and abnormal behavior. You will also delve into social and cultural processes. You will benefit from an understanding of the methodology of psychology via laboratory, coursework and also from experiential learning in internships.
The courses in this fully online program are offered in eight-week sessions, with six start terms per year. You'll interact with faculty and peers through online discussion boards and email, providing students the opportunity to complete coursework on a flexible schedule.
Degree recipients in the undergraduate Psychology program will demonstrate a thorough understanding of psychological theories, and will apply core psychology principles to personal, social and organizational issues. Students are expected to demonstrate familiarity with the ethical tenets of psychology in both their theoretical and lab coursework, as well as a required internship.
The major elements of personality theory are explored through the use of lectures, discussions, and case studies. Current research is examined and personality development models are discussed in relation to current clinical practices. Perspectives will include biological and trait; psychoanalysis, along with other Neo-Freudian perspectives; feminist; social-behavioral; and humanistic/holistic.
This course provides a critical review of theories, methods, and findings in human information processing, learning, and thinking. Topics include verbal learning, memory, attention, perception, problem solving, and creativity. Consideration is also given to the functioning of these cognitive processes during altered states of awareness (e.g., sleep, dreams, and hypnosis).
