Literacy Professional Development on Campus

Engage in Literacy Professional Development at Lesley University
The following trainings and courses will be offered on the Lesley Campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts:

• The Effective Literacy Coach Training: This nine-day training, plus additional online work, helps literacy coaches improve teacher expertise and student achievement in their school.
    
• Leveled Literacy Intervention Training: This six-day training will introduce you to a supplementary, literacy intervention system for struggling readers and writers in grades K–5.
    
• Graduate Courses: We offer three graduate courses, for credit and noncredit, in literacy teaching and learning.
  •  Systematic Teaching of Phonics and Spelling in the Primary Classroom (Grades K–3)
  •  Introduction to Guided Reading in an Effective Literacy Program (Grades K–2)
  • Introduction to Guided Reading in an Effective Literacy Program (Grades 3–8)

• Early Literacy Institute: This is an annual four-day institute designed for grades PreK–1 educators. Matt Glover will lead off the institute with an inspiring day on this year's topic, Designing a Unit of Study For Writing in Your Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, or First-Grade Classroom: The How, What, and Why. Offered for graduate credit and noncredit.
    
• Summer Literacy Institute: This is an annual four-day institute designed for grades K–8 educators. Irene Fountas is the keynote speaker for next year's event, speaking on the topic, Genre Study: Teaching With Fiction and Nonfiction in a Readers' Workshop. Offered for graduate credit and noncredit.
    
• School Leaders Seminar: What Every School Leader Needs to Know About Good Literacy Teaching and Effective Literacy Coaching is a four-day institute designed for principals, assistant principals, and school and district administrators. This professional development focuses on the roles of effective teaching, student assessment, coaching, supervision, and improving student achievement in reading and writing.
