Early Childhood Education
Research into early childhood education has shown what many teachers already know: the earliest years of learning are among the most critical. Young children have tremendous intellectual and social capacity, not only to become prepared for elementary school, but also to participate as citizens. The unique learning abilities become part of the classroom fabric, with which teachers and children engage as partners in education.
At the heart of Lesley's programs is respect for the competence and curiosity of young children, as well as for cultures, individual needs, and inclusive practices. Initial licensure programs offer field experiences and portfolio development that build a foundation of curriculum knowledge. Programs for Massachusetts professional licensure include advanced levels of curriculum development, policy, behavior, and research.

12-Credit Option for Professional Licensure (Post-Master's)
For those who already hold Master's degrees, 12 credits of graduate coursework in the subject matter knowledge of the Initial license can be used to meet part of the requirements for the Professional license in that field. This is an individual option listed in the Massachusetts state regulations and not an approved program. Those interested in taking advantage of this option should consult with an Assistant Director of Academic Advising in the School of Education before enrolling in courses.
