TEACHER CERTIFICATION FOR EDUCATORS IN SOUTH CAROLINA
Individuals who desire to add areas of certification to an existing certificate must complete a State Board of Education approved program and present a passing score on the appropriate content-area examination in the specific subject field, or complete the following add-on certification requirements specified by the Board.
Adding Certification Areas
Educators may add additional area(s) of certification to their existing certification by completing the requirements listed under each certification area found in the South Carolina Educator Certification Manual. To add an area to a certificate, an educator must:
- Complete the specific courses required for add-on certification in the area(s)
- Submit a passing score on the required specialty examination
- Submit a Request for Change/Action form
- Complete an approved program in the certification area (if applicable)
Endorsement Earned Through Direct Application
Following the steps listed above, a student may earn an endorsement in the area below through successfully complete the corresponding Lesley program.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement - Student should complete the full 18-credit TESOL program, complete 6 semester hours of coursework in a single second language, and successfully pass the appropriate content area exam.
Please note it is important that students interested in earning an endorsement through Lesley programs contact the South Carolina State Department of Education prior to registration to ensure that you are informed of the certification requirements needed to receive an endorsement.
