TEACHER CERTIFICATION FOR EDUCATORS IN GEORGIA
Are you a current educator in Georgia and interested in learning more about the process to add a level or an additional field to your teaching certificates? If so, read more to help guide you through the process. 

In-Field Certificate Upgrades
In-Field: A certificate level upgrade may be earned through successful completion of an advanced degree program in a GaPSC certification field held by the educator. Educators may earn upgrades through the completion of education degree programs (examples include but are not limited to M.Ed., Ed.S., and Ed.D.) or through the completion of content degree programs at the Master’s degree level or higher (examples include but are not limited to M.A., M.S., and Ph.D.).
 
The Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) new certificate requirements stipulate that for an educator to receive an upgrade to a certificate, the person must take a program in a GaPSC Certification Field. Additionally, programs provided by out-of-state institutions (such as Lesley University) must meet one of the following criteria in order for an educator to receive an in-field certificate upgrade or a new field certificate
  1. Program must be NCATE approved, or
  2. Program must be TEAC approved, or
  3. Program must be classified by Carnegie as a Research High (RU/H) or Research Very High (RU/VH).

The following Lesley programs align to a corresponding GaPSC certificate field for an in-field certificate upgrade. For an in-field upgrade, the advanced degree must be in a Georgia certificate field already held by the educator.

Authorization and Educator Certification

Authorization: Lesley University is authorized to offer programs in Georgia based on the following process: The Nonpublic Postsecondary Educational Institutions Act of 1990 as authorized Lesley University to offer postsecondary programs to residents of this state.

Educator Certification: Higher education authorization and educator certification approval are separate entities. For more information on educator certification, visit the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
