A comprehensive dual licensure residency program in collaboration with the Urban Teacher Center and district partners in Baltimore City, MD, and Washington, D.C.

Comprehensive Instruction and On-Site Coaching, Leading to Two Licenses

This Master of Education (M.Ed.) program combines a secondary education foundation with coursework in moderate disabilities, and gives you a competitive edge with two classroom licenses. Lesley grants the degree and the Urban Teacher Center (UTC) endorses the license.

Participants receive comprehensive instruction from UTC faculty, as well as on-site clinical coaching and support. The program is experiential, with key assignments grounded in direct application to the classroom.

Key program information for the Secondary Math and Moderate Disabilities UTC Program:

  • Program consists of 55 credits of practical, relevant coursework
  • Candidates should apply for the program through the Urban Teacher Center; applicants must be accepted by both UTC and Lesley University
  • Program requires 14-month commitment to intensive residency plus three (3) years teaching in a high-need urban elementary school
  • Classes are held at sites in Washington, D.C., or Baltimore City, MD.

    First Urban Teacher Center Graduating Class

    Urban Teacher FeatureThe first class of students in the Urban Teacher Center (UTC)-Lesley University program graduated in May, 2012, in Lesley's commencement ceremony in Boston, MA.  In all, 22 graduates traveled to the ceremony, and 6 students were not able to attend. The program now has over 180 residents and fellows training and serving in over 40 schools in the Baltimore-DC region. Lesley serves as the higher education partner for the UTC program.
