The undergraduate Graphic Design program challenges you to communicate solutions and ideas in a clear and visually striking manner, while mastering contemporary methods and media of graphic design.
The BFA in Graphic Design immerses you in the world of design thinking, design methods, and visual problem solving, teaching you to use typography and images to communicate across a range of media for a variety of purposes. This is a professional practice-based degree, with an emphasis on creating experiences and making things while understanding the contexts within which those are created and used.
In the program you are introduced to theoretical foundations of all design processes, immersed in skills and techniques needed to do visual communication design, and exposed to the wide range of graphic design and strategic design practices and purposes. You are given a chance to develop personal approaches and interests within graphic design as well as connections with interests outside of design.
Double majors in Graphic Design and Illustration, Graphic Design and Fine Art, and Graphic Design and Photography are also available, enhancing marketability in a professional field where new hires are required to wear multiple hats.
A dynamic and progressive real-world design studio
experience, Studio InFlux teams students with non-profit organizations
that promote social and cultural change. Student-designed projects are used
to communicate each non-profit's message while simultaneously enabling students to apply learned design principles to solve practical problems. The studio is a worthwhile opportunity to improve practical design skills,
enhance portfolios, and gain experience with
Building off of the basic type elements learned in Typography I, students develop a personal typographic voice while improving their real-world problem solving techniques. The aim of this course is for students to learn how to structure information while maintaining proper use of basic type elements. Experimentation with principles learned through each exercise is heavily emphasized as students will apply this new knowledge to more complex problems.
