Gain a strong working knowledge of craft that creates the flexibility and confidence to work in all forms of nonfiction writing.
Students in the nonfiction concentration of the MFA in Creative Writing Program work in a wide range of genres: memoir, personal essay, literary journalism, food and travel writing, as well as research-based narratives. Faculty provide students with a foundational approach to craft, and practical tools that are informed by an understanding of the contemporary literary environment. By honing and deepening their material students are able to invest their subjects and stories with the power and passion to reach the widest possible audience.
Past visiting nonfiction writers include Steve Almond, Jonathan Cott, Gail Caldwell, Vivian Gornick, and Sue Millar, among others.
