Eco-Clamshell Program 2012-2013

Our goal is to empower individuals, and the institution, to contribute to a sustainable community, through a deeper understanding of the ecological connections that bind us all together, through the creation of opportunities for action, and through ongoing assessment of our progress.

 

How Does the Program Work?

  1. Students are given an initial Eco-Clamshell Carry-Out Container
  2. Once their meal card or Cash Lynx card is swiped by the cashier, they choose to either eat their meal in the cafeteria or put their chosen food items into their Eco-Clamshell Carry-Out Container and leave the area.
  3. Next time this person wants another meal to-go, they bring back their RINSED-OUT CONTAINER and exchange it for a clean and sanitized one that's been run through the cafeteria's dishwasher. It is an exchange program - a container needs to be brought back in order to get a new one, or pay $5 for a replacement.
  4. IMPORTANT: The food needs to be rinsed out before returning or it will be refused and another container will need to be purchased.

In order to maintain City Health Code Sanitation Standards, the use of personal reusable containers, including cups of any type is not allowed.

Any china, plastic cups or silverware are to remain in the cafeteria at all times.
