Dr. Collins is the director of the mathematics programs in Lesley College and the Lesley School of Education, and directs the Achievement Center for Mathematics. She teaches all mathematics courses offered at Lesley in a face-to-face, online, and hybrid format. She also teaches Assessment Issues in Mathematics: Formative and Summative as well as Differentiation in the Mathematics Classroom. Dr. Collins is the past president of both the Association of Teachers of Mathematics in New England and the Association of Teachers of Mathematics in Massachusetts. She is an active member of the Association of State Supervisors of Mathematics, and was elected into the Massachusetts Mathematics Educators Hall of Fame in 2005. She was recently elected to the Board of Directors for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). Dr. Collins delivered the 2009 Richard Balomenos Memorial Lecture at the
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics regional conference, where
she suggested that teachers need to change the focus of math instruction
from skill and practice to problem-solving.
