Area of Work and Concentration at Lesley: As University Professor, Martha Barry McKenna teaches courses in the history and philosophy of the arts, creativity, and aesthetic education. She directs the Creativity Commons to support faculty and doctoral students from across the university in engaging in creative exploration of innovation in teaching and learning. She also oversees the Cambridge Creativity Commons, designed to engage students and teachers in the Cambridge Public Schools in exploring creative ideas and solutions to critical issues in society.

Martha Barry McKenna is most recently a University Professor and Director of Lesley's Creativity Commons, and provides creative leadership in the arts and arts education across the university. She also participates in the Cambridge Creativity Commons, for teachers and students of the Cambridge Public Schools. Previously, she held the post of Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Social Sciences, dean of the Division of Liberal Studies and Adult Learning, and director of the Adult Baccalaureate Program. She began her career as a high school teacher of music and the arts.She is on various boards and committees of arts organizations that include Citi Performing Arts Center, Arts/Learning of Massachusetts, and the Worcester Art Museum.
