Don has taught secondary English Language Arts for over thirty years, and for ten years was coordinator of pre-service teaching interns. He is currently a consultant and instructor in content area literacy and disciplinary literacy. He says:"Encouraging teachers in all disciplines to use literacy strategies in their instruction provides a way to engage students with and to process content knowledge. Using a disciplinary literacy approach allows teachers of content have the opportunity to instill the “habits of mind” and “standards of practice” unique to that discipline. This belief drives my work in the courses I teach for Lesley and other universities as well as in workshops and coaching I do with teachers in the Cleveland area. Teaching as an adjunct for Lesley and working with cohorts from around the county has afforded me the opportunity to deepen my respect and appreciation for the dedication and professionalism of teachers, the successes they celebrate, and the challenges that they face."
